In the power, petrochemical, and other heavy industries, vacuum oil purifiers are the core equipment for maintaining the purity of industrial oils such as transformer oil and hydraulic oil. The Core Difference: The Vacuum System


Both types operate on the same basic principle: using vacuum negative pressure to lower the boiling point of water, enabling low-temperature dehydration and degassing. However, their vacuum system designs are fundamentally different.


A single-stage vacuum oil purifier is equipped with only one rotary vane vacuum pump, with a typical operating vacuum level of -0.06 to -0.09 MPa. The oil passes through a single flash evaporation stage for dehydration and degassing, then goes directly to fine filtration before discharge. This design can only remove free water, large air bubbles, and standard particulate contaminants, and has limited ability to strip dissolved moisture and gases.


A double-stage vacuum oil purifier uses a two-stage series vacuum system combining a Roots booster pump with a rotary vane vacuum pump, achieving an ultimate vacuum as low as 5 Pa or below and an operating vacuum of ≤35 Pa. The oil passes through two sequential vacuum separation stages: the first stage removes most of the free water and gases, while the second stage deeply strips the moisture and gases that are tightly bound to the oil molecules. The purification depth far exceeds that of single-stage units.


Purification Performance: The Gap Shows in the Numbers


The difference in vacuum level directly translates into a significant gap in final purification results:


Single-stage units typically reduce oil moisture content to 10–20 ppm and gas content to 0.3%–0.5%, with only a limited improvement in breakdown voltage after a single pass.


Double-stage units can bring moisture content down to below 5 ppm and gas content to ≤0.1%, boosting breakdown voltage by more than 35 kV in a single pass. Their degassing efficiency is 30%–50% higher than single-stage units, allowing the oil to quickly meet the insulation standards required for high-voltage equipment.


Application Scenarios: Match the Right Unit to Your Needs


The key to proper selection is matching the equipment to your voltage level and purification requirements, avoiding both over-specification and inadequate performance.


Single-stage vacuum oil purifiers are suitable for routine maintenance of small and medium-sized transformers and distribution network transformers rated at 110 kV and below. They handle basic water and contaminant removal, with a compact structure and low energy consumption, making them a cost-effective choice for standard operational maintenance.


Double-stage vacuum oil purifiers are purpose-built for deep purification of high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage main transformers rated at 110 kV and above. At these voltage levels, even trace amounts of dissolved water and gas can trigger partial discharge, and only the deep purification capability of a double-stage unit can meet the insulation requirements. Additionally, double-stage units come with an independent vacuum pumping function, allowing them to perform vacuum drying and vacuum oil filling directly on transformer bodies, significantly reducing maintenance downtime. They are also better suited for high-altitude installations, where lower atmospheric pressure causes the vacuum level of single-stage units to drop further, while the high pumping capacity of the double-stage system remains unaffected.

Routine maintenance of 10–35 kV distribution transformers: choose a single-stage vacuum oil purifier for cost-effective performance.


Overhaul or new oil injection for 110 kV and 220 kV main transformers: a double-stage high-vacuum oil purifier is required to ensure moisture and gas content meet specifications.


330 kV / 500 kV ultra-high-voltage equipment: select a high-flow double-stage model with an ultimate vacuum of ≤10 Pa.


Severely aged oil with excessive acid value: consider a vacuum + adsorption regeneration integrated unit to simultaneously remove acidic substances and sludge.
